Fibromyalgia and Chiropractic Care

A new study, published in the January 2009 issue of the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, the official scientific journal of the American Chiropractic Association, lends some interesting light on the subject of conservative care and fibromyalgia.

The study, authored by Michael Schneider, DC, PhD and others, suggests that certain conservative care measures, often used and prescribed by chiropractors my be helpful in the treatment of fibromyalgia. The study was overseen and administered by the Council on Chiropractic Guidelines and Practice Parameters.

Fibromyalgia is a chronic disease that causes muscle and connective tissue pain along with pain from what would typically be non-painful to an unaffected person. The disease affects women primarily and is seen most often in people in the 30-50 year age range.

Chiropractic care is generally safe if it can be applied skillfully and appropriately. I have to like this natural method because it has no side effect as traditional treatment methods.

Thanks for sharing that link! So that was the chronic disease our chiropractor (Brooklyn Center, MN based) told us. I was diagnosed with this disease. He said that there has been a study on this, so I got curious. Then I find your blog that has that link to the abstract of that study. I wanted to see the whole paper, though. Maybe next time!

Anyway, another chiropractor (Brooklyn Park, MN based; not that far away), who's a friend of the first chiropractor I visited, told me that I should have some kind of therapy. I hope they can treat my fibromyalgia...

Too often, people wait until the pain becomes unbearable before they contact a chiropractor. Waiting can cause long-term damage, so it is important that you contact your chiropractor when the pain originally begins. Chiropractic goes to the root of the problem, helping patients live pain-free without the use of medication.
